About the author


Richard Taylor (1826-1879) was the son of President Zachary Taylor. A Confederate general in the American Civil War., he spent his early life on the frontier with his father, an Army officer. Taylor served as his father’s military secretary during the Mexican War, and was also the brother-in-law of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
